A scaffolding permit is needed if you wish to place scaffolding on any part of the highway (public road).
To ensure compliance with permit conditions, local councils in London only accept applications from scaffolding companies. Residents cannot apply.
The minimum permit period for a scaffolding permit varies depending form the councils you are applying form but generally is one month. After this time, you will need to renew your permit. Renewal is not automatic and will depend on the way works have been carried out during the period of the original permit.
You do not need consent to place scaffolding on private land. However, you may need parking suspensions to enable you to complete the build.
Please allow up to 10 working days for your application to be processed.
You must display a laminated copy of any current scaffolding permit on the scaffolding where it stands on the highway. Your permit must be visible to anyone using the public highway. If you don’t display your permit, we may issue a Fixed Penalty Notice.
